Introduction: The major thrust of this initiative is to build a foundational Alliance between the Excellence of Women’s Health Program at the University Of Mississippi Medical Center: CARE for women nonprofit and the Mississippi Women’s Collective (MWC) focused upon insuring the availability of women-centered health services. Through the alliance, a relationship between a major healthcare facility and a nonprofit organization is forged that moves toward meeting their goals of serving women’s health needs.
Objective: To 1) develop a collaborative model to enhance healthcare services and resource programs for women 2) create an interactive, culturally and gender specific informational outreach office and 3) disseminate findings, resource allocations and services provided to target groups.
Summary: This collaborator’s aim is to develop: 1) an alliance of women’s professional organizations; and 2) specific programs based on women-focused services through collaboration and coordination of existing services. The goal is to identify, evaluate, and make available educational materials from local and national organizations, develop a resource center for females, adults, and adolescents targeting women in the surrounding community, and create programs specific to the needs of women as identified by them.
Conclusion: This proposal is an example of how a medical center program and a nonprofit partnership can provide needed healthcare services and community resources for women. Partnering with MWC will allow CARE to further its community outreach core goals and expand its reach into the community. The Alliance bridges services and communities and assist both organizations in building foundational components in their respective programs.
