In May 2001, the US EPA initiated a survey of public and private schools in the United States in an effort to gain information regarding the number of schools that have implemented sound indoor air quality (IAQ) management practices. In addition, the survey was designed to determine the level of activity taken by schools to improve IAQ, and to assess the barriers encountered by schools trying to achieve better IAQ. The 4 page survey was distributed to a random sample of elementary and secondary schools, stratified by geographic region and public/private status. This presentation will discuss the survey results and the implications of these results as related to assisting schools in improving indoor environments.
