A primary goal of the Each One Reach One Community Cardiovascular Health Program was to reduce cardiovascular health disparities among adult, primarily African American, residents in an underserved area of Gainesville. To help communicate this goal to community members and provide on going ‘program recognition’, a project logo was developed as part of the initial phase of the project. This poster will demonstrate the process undertaken to develop a health program logo, and highlight the importance of making design decisions based on cultural considerations. The design/pilot/redesign cycle logos will be presented, with examples of changes made due to specific feedback from the intended audience gathered during the piloting process. The dialogue between the program staff and community members will be revealed through the evolution of the logo images. Specifically, attitudes towards issues such as racial disparities and gender representation, as well as prevalent outlooks on the relationship between the community and public health organizations were discovered and will be demonstrated through the visual development of the graphic elements. The final graphic design, a combination of art, social and graphic design elements, will illustrate the value of the social research required to arrive at an image that represents both the program and its participants.
