As a public service program of the University of California, CPAC is mandated to monitor and assess the prospects for expanded access to health care for California's immigrant working poor.
In addition to funding over 20 studies since 1998 assessing the health conditions and service delivery options for this population, CPAC has also convened forums on farmworkers and immigrants and served as initial funder and catalyst to the California Mexico Health Initiative (CMHI). In addition to annual support for CMHI, CPAC has collaborated and lent assistance in the creation of the CA-Mexico HIV Initiative, the CA-Mexico Research Program in conjunction with UC Mexus, a Transnational Insurance Forum to promote additional private and public sector coverage and a pilot project to establish health stations in the Mexican consulates in California.
The presentation will provide an overview of these efforts and the prospects for maintaining and expanding health coverage to Mexican workers and their families during a period of public and private health crisis.
