The Santa Clara County Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Network (APPN), a public-private sector coalition, has made significant progress in developing a comprehensive prevention strategy through extensive collaboration among its 80+ partners, including the Public Health Department, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, schools, and other entities. These agencies are organized into eight collaborative workgroups, including an Interfaith workgroup, five "hot-spot" geographically-based workgroups, a Male Involvement-Fatherhood workgroup, and a Public Education and Policy workgroup. This effort has been supported by Santa Clara County as well as a four-year grant from the David & Lucile Packard Foundation that funds implementation of best practice teen pregnancy prevention programs, technical assistance for coalition members, and evaluation of coalition efforts. This paper will present the findings of a four-year case study of the lessons learned about 1) promoting collaboration among coalition partners, 2) integrating best practices into collaborative prevention efforts, and 3) focusing on outcome-based program evaluation in community collaboratives.
