Part I of this session included the review of the initiation of this team. The team should now have completed a roll of participants involved, and development of directives, a vital part of the team's success. The next step is the establishment of the team's goals and values, an essential part to the team's growth. An example is the capability of responding to the community's changing needs for resources and referral information and the development of educational materials. Organizational charts, value statements and planning strategies provide practical direction to participants. A mission statement is also a crucial part of any team or organization's structure. Such statements for the collaboration should be written to include "community-based projects designed to coordinate and promote comprehensive education, prevention, treatment and resources for families, agencies and organizations within a designated area." A list of team activities will also help to focus the group on its purpose. Such activities could include: · Develop standard educational materials · Respond to requests for resource and referral information · Present project outcomes at regional and national conferences · Serve as a pilot project for other counties and states Approaches, new and inventive, along with those that have been successful in the past, will help the team identify its' place in the community.
