Introduction and Background: The Division of Reproductive Health (DRH) is developing an online Reproductive Health Atlas that provides critical data on reproductive health rate indicators for the five major racial and ethnic groups. This atlas provides policymakers and service providers with geodata for programs.
Methods: The website is built according to CDC, ATSDR and NCHS web and data standards. The static pages discuss geographic information science and systems, define the indicators, demographic and risk options, and explain use of the interactive portion of the site. The interactive pages explore the spatial relationships of rates by demographic and risk categories. Any rates with a relative standard error calculation of >30% are considered both statistically unstable and potential risk to individual identity and are therefore not displayed. Currently there are an estimated 6 million views that can be generated.
Demonstration: The geo-database includes six indicators: fetal and infant mortality, pregnancy outcomes, maternal risks, teen risks, infant health and maternal interventions. One can define a view by selecting the desired country, time period, indicator, geographic level, geographic view and geographic view target. The requested map displays and the indicators can be analyzed spatially.
Public Health Implications: U.S. health providers will use the website for exploring the spatial aspects of reproductive health indicators and other data-driven analyses.
