In an attempt to reach and educate young people about their sexual and reproductive health, and to improve their ability to access quality family planning services, the California Family Health Council, Inc. (CFHC) has developed a unique and innovative web-based resource for teenagers and young adults in California.
Focus groups conducted with teenagers identified the need for this resource, which utilizes a more teen-friendly, entertaining streaming video clip format without large quantities of text information on sexual health.
The streaming video clips that TeenSource.org uses provide sexual health education with testimonials from teenagers as well as celebrities. In addition, Virtual Clinic Tour videos were produced showing real life Family Planning Clinic settings that walk the teenager through an actual family planning visit.
The results of the focus groups also indicated that young people valued the ability to access clinical resources in addition to sexual health education. A “clinic search” function allows users to search for the nearest Title X Family Planning Clinics in California by Zip code and/or location.
This website was also designed and developed for Title X delegate agencies in California to use as a tool to educate young people within their communities and to market the clinical services provided by each delegate agency.
The look, style and content of the website will be presented, and samples of the marketing items used to promote the website will be distributed to participants.
