This course was developed by a consortium of 23 organizations representing health providers and responders who would provide front line responses in the event of an act of terrorism. The effort to develop the course was led by the American Public Health Association, the National Association of EMS Physicians, and the National Association of State EMS Directors. The course provides an overview of the potential types of terrorist weapons and their impact on the population; the steps necessary to prepare for and respond to a terrorist attack; and the types of equipment and supplies necessary to protect the health of the response teams. Although the course has been field tested, it remains a work in progress, and the comments of the participants on its components will be sought at the end of the presentation. | |||
