The success of Healthy People 2010 hinges on collaboration among key stakeholders, reaching beyond the Federal level into the regions, States and communities. The HHS Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) has leveraged its implementation capacity at the state and community levels by partnering with the HHS Regional Health Administrators (RHAs). The RHAs have championed Healthy People 2010 on a broad level through a series of summits and initiatives aimed at implementing the Healthy People 2010 goals and objectives at the regional, state and community levels. This session will highlight ODPHP implementation strategies and the successful activities of four Regions encompassing Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont (Region I); New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands (Region II); Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia (Region III); and Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas (Region VI).

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to

• Recognize the relevance of Healthy People 2010 goals and objectives at the national, regional, state and community levels.
• Describe Healthy People-related activies at the national, regional, state, and community levels.
• Identify ways in which he or she can take carry out health promotion strategies in his or her own community.
