In May 2002, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention hosted an invited workshop to help develop a scientific research agenda on the impact of the built environment on the public health. Workshop participants included persons with expertise in physical activity, injury, air pollution, water quality, urban planning, transportation, architecture, social marketing, epidemiology, land use, mental health, social capital, health policy, and housing. In this session we will present the current draft of the scientific research agenda on health and built environment issues, and invite discussion and feedback from the session attendees on this draft agenda.

Learning Objectives:

• To identify scientific research issues concerning the impact of the built environment on the public's health, specifically in relation to physical activity, injuries, respiratory disease, and mental health
