This presentation presents initial findings from the Feeding Infants and Toddlers Survey, a cross-sectional survey of a nationally representative sample of U.S. infants and toddlers 4 to 24 months of age. The survey consists of two primary components: (1) a 24-hour dietary recall administered to parents and caretakers of a random sample of 3,000 infants and toddlers, with two days of dietary recall available for a representative subsample; and (2) a parent survey on household characteristics, infant growth and development, and feeding practices and patterns. The Nutrition Data System of the University of Minnesota was used to conduct the computer-assisted dietary recall via telephone. The presentation presents results from analyses of usual nutrient intake for five infant and toddler age subgroups, and interprets these data in the context of the new Dietary Reference Intakes released by the Institute of Medicine.
