This paper examines the nature of state-level organization support for Community Health Partnerships(CHPs)based upon interviews with 36 state organization leaders in three states. First, it addresses the question of institutional environment support for CHPs that might attempt to extend their selection of partners beyond the boundaries of public health and voluntary and governmental human services organizations to enlist the support of local businesses. Second, it examines similar state-level support for CHPs who seek to embrace within the partnership members, local health provider organizations and/or health plans which are engaged in competition with one another. Third, it considers state-level organizational support for working relationships between the CHP and public health units. Finally, with respect to CHP roles in state-level policy arena, the study measures state-level organization support for CHP roles in Medicaid managed care and, more generally, in other state health and human service program initiatives.
