This presentation will review initiatives and efforts undertaken by national funders to both address the needs of priority populations, and engage them in policy change and service delivery. The funders include the American Legacy Foundation and its Priority Populations Initiative and Community Voices Tobacco Initiative, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and its National Networks addressing priority populations, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and its SmokeLess States Program. Together, these funders have strategically supported the involvement of organizations representative of priority populations in tobacco control. While these funders and their grant recipients continue to wrestle with ways to identify promising practices, culturally appropriate approaches, and resource gaps, they do engage in efforts to encourage trust and relationship building with priority population organizations in order to advance policy and program efforts.
This session will address the importance of engaging priority populations in tobacco control efforts in an interactive setting and provide for lively forum discussion about overcoming barriers and challenges.
