Health Link is a community and volunteer-based initiative that promotes the health and well-being of childbearing women and children living in Rowan County, North Carolina. Members of the public-private partnership include the Adolescent and Family Enrichment Council, Health Link Advisory Board, Healthy Rowan Task Force, Hispanic Health Alliance Resource Center, Rowan County Health Department, Rowan Regional Medical Center, Hispanic Coalition of Salisbury-Rowan, local businesses, and a network of over 25 volunteer lay health advisors. A highly successful community model, Health Link has received awards from the GlaxoSmithKline Child Health Recognition Program, North Carolina Perinatal Association, North Carolina Public Health Association, and Safe Motherhood Initiatives-USA. The presentation will focus on strategies employed to create and sustain four essential elements of health promotion practice relevant to the health of childbearing women and children: partnership, issues, intervention programs, and behavior changes. We will discuss the benefits that clients and Health Link partners received through their participation in the Health Link initiative.
