This presentation will discuss the model by which a local health jurisdiction convened an alliance consisting of family violence prevention agencies within the community to develop a strategic plan and implement selected strategic activities. The four assessments of Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnership (MAPP) were utilized as a model for the strategic planning. The assessments include: community themes and strengths; local public health system assessment; community health status assessment; and forces for change. The 16 month family violence prevention strategic planning process led by the local jurisdiction consisted of monthly meetings to develop a mission, vision and goals of the newly formed alliance; create a consistent protocol by which the community defines family violence; conduct a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis of family violence prevention in the community; and identify common themes as a framework for the strategic action items. An extensive needs assessment was conducted consisting of health department and agency staff surveys and multicultural and multilingual focus groups and quick intercept surveys to identify strategic action items, objectives and strategic activities to implement. The implementation of selected strategic action items includes activities related to education and training of health department and family violence prevention agency staff and a community awareness and media influence campaign. An alliance website and logo development, multilingual public service announcements and community forum are among the select activities the alliance will implement. The community approach to implementing the activities and an evaluation model of the strategic activities will be discussed.
