This investigation examines the frequency of articles focusing on body image and dieting from 1970-2000 in Vogue and Ladies Home Journal. The study was designed to analyze the frequency and content of the articles relating to these two issues.Content analysis method was used to identify and interpret the themes of the articles and the difference in trends observed during the three-decade period. By and large, Vogue published more as well as a higher percentage of articles that focused on body image and dieting. However, each popular magazine followed a slightly different pattern. The investigator concluded that articles in both the magazines contribute to the ideal standard that is set for women to achieve. The main focus of the articles that were reviewed in this investigation focused on women achieving the ideal physical body, beauty, and image regardless of the long-term effects that may result. The effects of these articles on the overall health of American women appeared to be significant. The way women view their bodies will be increasingly distorted if that pattern continues.
