This study, conducted in Ghana, West Africa, investigated Ghanaian women's perception of polygamy and the effect on their lives. Data were collected from 15 married women who consented to in-depth interviews. Findings indicate that infertility was the number one reason for women who allowed for co-wives for their spouses. More than half of the women in this study approved and participated in the selection of co-wives. The effect of polygamy on the women's health, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being is discussed.
