The annual "Evening With"session, sponsored by the Medical Care Section on the Wednesday evening of the APHA Annual Meeting, has each year honored the recipient of the Viseltear Award for work in the history of public health and honored an individual or a group for lifelong public health work of special interest to the Section. The 2001 recipient of the Viseltear Award is Christian Warren, PhD of the University of Georgia for his book "Brush with Death: A Social History of Lead Poisoning." The 2001 Section honoree is the late Milton Roemer, MD, a founder and leader of the Medical Care Section and professor at the UCLA School of Public Health. Dr. Roemer's extraordinary contributions to public health throughout the world have educated and inspired generations of public health workers. Many of the panelists, in honoring Dr. Roemer, will also comment on "the role of medical care in public health." | ||||
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: (1) Understand the role of medical care in public health; (2)Understand the role of Professor Milton Roemer in expounding and advocating for the role of medical care in public health in the United States and throughout the world. | ||||
