Demands for public health training networks and professional development have grown, both here and abroad, due to increased involvement of the private sector, the changing role of the public health sector and the challenges of retraining the public health workforce. Collaborative efforts among the international academic, practice, government and community sectors are required to expand the fraction of the public health practitioners who receive needed education and training.
In 1994, CDC, PHPPO sponsored, through a cooperative agreement with the Association of Schools of Public Health, the establishment of a National Public Health Leadership Development Network managed by the Saint Louis University School of Public Health. National and, most recently, international membership includes academic and practice representatives of state, regional, national and international public health leadership programs. Leadership programs are currently available or being developed in thirty-nine states, as well as nationally and in numerous countries across the globe. The leadership programs are dedicated to meeting the local grassroots needs by developing and enhancing individual and organizational leadership and management for improving and promoting the health of communities.
During this session, Leadership Institute representatives will address their efforts in developing and implementing a leadership institute, including the use of a competency framework and information regarding the underlying curriculum and curriculum delivery methods used to address these competencies. |
