| Planning In The Public Interest |

| The evident fragmentation of health care and related services and the barriers to access cry out for public policies that emphasize the value of community based planning. The American Health Planning Association has long maintained the context and skills associated with successfully addressing community need, resource allocation, public policy and public health. In this president’s address, the Association will define the public interest to be served by a community health planning process. Building from core values, the address will consider how health planning, health policy, health regulation and public health are woven into a cohesive approach to improving the health of our communities. |
| Learning Objectives: This address will provide a perspective on the importance and value of planning as it relates to the public's interest in accessible and affordable care based on the community need and participation in the planning process. The links among planning, health policy, health regulation and public health will be described. As a result, participants will be able to articulate the public interest value of planning and the potential impact on access, distribution and differential emphasis between public and private health care and related services. |
