| This symposium will use the results of a recently completed 10 city national case control study of intimate partner femicide and attempted femicide as the basis for a presentation of the nursing role in the prevention of intimate partner femicide. The presenters of this symposium will represent the team of nursing and other discipline researchers on the study, which was funded by NIH, NIJ and CDC. Findings related to a clinical danger assessment instrument (DA), stalking, mandatory reporting and female attempted homicide characteristics will be presented. An overview paper will synthesize the findings of prior research and discuss missed opportunities for prevention of these lethal and non-lethal assaults. | ||||

| Learning Objectives: Symposium participants will be able to: 1. Describe the psychometric properties of the Danger Assessment instrument. 2. Describe the type and frequency of stalking reported by a national sample of abused and non-abused women. 3. Discuss abused women's desires related to mandatory reporting of abuse by nurses. 4. Describe nursing strategies and missed opportunities for the prevention of femicide or near fatal injuries to women. 5. Apply research data towards a comprehensive woman's safety assessment. | ||||
