Oral Session | ||||
| ||||
Violence itself can be a case of denial of human rights or a violent situations can provide a context within which numerous human rights are threatened. Examples of the first instance include torture or genocide where violence itself is a means of denial of rights. In the second case war might provide a context within which rights to many basic needs as well as social and political rights may be violated. In this session we will discuss a range of intersections of human rights and violence from situations of domestic and community violence to war and genocide. Examples will be given from both national and international perspectives. | ||||
