This session will feature presentations (including question-and-answer periods) on subjects of current importance concerning war and public health. The session will be moderated by Barry S. Levy, MD, and Victor W. Sidel, MD, who have worked extensively in this area and have edited an APHA book entitled, "War and Public Health" (Updated Edition, 2000). The preliminary list of subjects for this session are: (1) the impact of civil war in Africa; (2) bioterrorism; (3) national missile defense; (4) the adverse health effects of exposure to "depleted" uranium; (5) the ongoing impact of sanctions in Iraq and elsewhere; and (6) promoting U.S. support for the international landmine treaty. | ||||
