Abstract #32984

Lessons from Europe and Beyond

Rory O'Neill, International Federation of Journalists, Hazards Magazine, Workers' Health International Newsletter, Sheffield, England, 44(0)114 276 5695, editor@hazards.org

European nations have experimented with different systems to incorporate occupational health services and workers' compensation into their national health programs. Denmark and others developed some of the more innovative approaches. The European Union has compared and analyzed these systems and sought to develop blueprints for EU-wide laws through its various "directives". Recent efforts by conservative governments, however, have sought to privatize services and push for other regressive reforms.
