In 1999 European Ministers for Environment and Health, recommended to set up an interagency network to monitor the health effects of climate change, carry out national health impact assessments and to advocate mitigation and adaptation options for the WHO Member States. The importance of monitoring health outcomes of climate change is well recognized but accurate, reliable and comparable data are necessary for detecting and quantifying climate change effects on health. Stakeholders involvement, adaptation assessment, comparative risk assessment are keys to properly carry out national health and adaptation assessments. The presentation will deal with the current level of achievements within the programme and the increasing methodological and technical difficulties.
