Antimicrobial use in food animals selects for antimicrobial resistant bacteria which are transmitted to humans through the food supply, and may compromise treatment of infections in humans. Such resistance is tracked through the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System (NARMS). This presentation will review recent data from NARMS and other applied research activities, as well as similar data from Europe. These include data on Campylobacter resistant to the fluoroquinolone antibiotic, ciprofloxacin as well as resistant species of Salmonella.
