Abstract #32572

Senior Wheels Medical Transportation Program

John R. Morris, Senior Wheels, , Johnssw99@aol.com

The Senior Wheels Medical Transportation Porgram was designed to assist a growing number of older adults (55+) in our community who cannot drive and have no other viable mode of transportation available for scheduled medical appointments. Seniors across the spectrum are very limited in their ability to reach needed services when driving privileges are revoked. Enabling them to get to needed doctor appointments has brought many calls of appreciation to the program. By providing this intervention and insuring seniors reach their medical appointments in a timely manner, seniors can remain independent, remain in their homes, and avoid premature institutionalization. By supporting seniors in maintaining their general health we allowing them to continue to be productive community members. The Senior Wheels Program is inter-faith driven, with local religious congregations providing volunteer drivers.

Learning Objectives: 1) To learn about an inovative program for the elderly.
