Abstract #32535

Quantitative Methods in a Qualitative World

Carole Siegel, PhD, Center for the Study of Issues in Public Mental Health, Nathan Kline Institute, 140 Old Orangeburg Rd., Orangeburg, NY 10962, 845 398 6590, siegel@nki.rfmh.org

Mental health issues are complex and variegated. In order to provide information for decision making on mental health policy, formal structures are required to organize and analyse available and newly collected data. Carl Taube was particularly interested in cost and financing issues and their associated outcomes. Illustrations of how concepts from both statistics and economics have been applied to problems in these areas will be presented. These include methods, applicable today, for investigating utilization, costs, reimbursements and cost-effectiveness.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn about the contributions of Carole Siegel to mental health services research.
