Several Federal health agencies and the American Heart Association, including its division the American Stroke Association, are joining forces to speed progress toward the heart disease and stroke goals set forth in Healthy People 2010, a national health promotion and disease prevention initiative.
This Healthy People public-private partnership strives to magnify activities to implement Healthy People 2010 and improve the health of our nation. The Federal agencies and the American Heart Association will work to accomplish these Healthy People goals through focused initiatives including: population- and community-based public education and health promotion programs; activities to bring about policy, systemic and environmental improvements in the nation's cardiovascular health care delivery systems; research; media-based public awareness campaigns about the warning signs and symptoms of heart attack and stroke; promoting professional education and training, including co-hosting of national conferences and the dissemination of "best practices" among the cardiovascular community; and other activities.
The organizations engaged in this Healthy People 2010 Partnership are the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (OS/OPHS/ODPHP), the National, Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NIH/NHLBI), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (CDC/NCCDPHP), the National Institute for Neurological Disorders (NIH/NINDS), and the American Heart Association (AHA). These agencies recognize the unique strengths of each agency and appreciate the magnitude of capitalizing upon an HHS-AHA Healthy People 2010 Partnership.
