HIV prevention community planning groups (CPGs) need to recognize the value of integrating STD prevention approaches into the prevention planning process. CPGs should examine STD data from their community. They should also understand STD prevention programs in their community. There should also be STD prevention representation on CPGs. Through this enhanced understanding, CPGs will be better able to integrate STD prevention into HIV prevention. This talk will focus on the current status of the integration process. It will describe barriers to collaboration that exist because of the way programs are structured and funded. The talk will also focus on models of collaboration, and examples of ways that CPGs have already worked on integration. Tools to aid in the HIV community planning process will be described, and information on obtaining tools and technical assistance will be outlined.
Learning Objectives: 1.) Describe status of HIV prevention community planning and STD prevention in US. 2.) List tools available on HIV prevention community planning.
