It is well documented that there is epidemiologic synergy between HIV infection and other STDs. Data exist to link HIV infection with a growing number of STDs. Collaboration and integration between HIV and STD prevention continues to gain prominence in public health planning. In particular, HIV community planning can play a key role in this integration. Collaboration and integration has worked both with and without structural changes at the health department level. This talk will examine the status of integration in the US, key factors that influence integration, and key barriers to integration. Data on the intersection of HIV and STD rates will also be examined. Case studies from across the US of effective STD & HIV prevention integration will also be discussed.
