The workshop will describe how health researchers and advocates drafted the first "Brown Paper" on South Asian American health in 2000-2001. The South Asian Public Health Association conducted a process of identifying and contacting community and university health leaders to contribute to the Paper. We will detail the process of identifying authors, prioritizing sections required, and culling sections together into a final document. During the panel discussion, we will also share findings from the "Brown Paper" in areas such as access and utilization, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and elder care. We will conclude with discussion and feedback from participants. See www.sapha.net
Learning Objectives: 1. Understand the process of linking health leaders to identify a community's health priorities. 2. Use a similar strategy for developing a health document with multiple authors in different geographic regions. 3. Describe the priority health needs of the South Asian American community.
