Global health network- Supercourse has been recruiting Epidemiology faculty members globally. We’ve been built 2000 faculty members from 110 countries since 1997 fall and provided about 300 web-based lectures on Epidemiology, Internet, and global health. We’ve evaluated our faculty members and found their demographics and characteristics.
About 30% of members are female and 70% are male. About 30% of members are from developing countries and 70% are from developed countries. 15.5% of lectures are provided by authors from developing countries, and 84.5% are from developed countries. More than 90% of faculty members are from health related area and there are 6% of people from information system or telecommunication area.
From our preliminary survey on the interest of participating in professional global health collaboration, there were about 32% responses (n=496) out of all faculty members (n=1547: Aug.2000). 57.1% are from developed countries and 42.8% are from developing countries. Among those answered to the questions (n=336), 87% agreed with sharing the information about their research area on the web. 78% agreed to become a Supercourse lecturer about their research area. 92% agreed to participate in web-based discussion about their research area. They can read or speak in average 3-4 languages. Asked about their primary areas of interest (with multiple answers possible), most indicated that they were interested in cancer (8.9%) and environmental/occupational health (7.9%).
