Eight focus groups were conducted in Montgomery County with parents of 5-7 year olds to obtain information about their perceptions of issues pertaining to asthma triggers and controls. Based on the new knowledge gained from these focus groups, we are developing communication strategies that will take into consideration the knowledge and beliefs of parents. Collaborative approaches are needed. Partners in this collaboration include parents, pediatricians, school nurses, health educators and relevant non-profit institutions.
