Modes and Methods of Meeting Diverse Workforce Needs Effectively
This session will introduce a range of methods and modes being used at UNC School of Public Health at to address training needs of different public health audiences, including entry level workers, mid level managers and senior level administrators All of these approaches employ distance learning as they involve training to off campus students, although the level of technology used varies from program to program. With the continual development of new and exciting educational technologies, there is a tendency to let those technologies dictate the educational method. Experience at the UNC SPH has shown that different audiences have different needs and expectations and one size does not fit all. While online courses are appropriate for delivery of the school's public health certificate, the school's distance-based MPH programs employ a mix of online and interactive video. The other executive education programs utilize a mix of online resources, retreats and in-service team projects.
The presenters will show how programs can be tailored to meet specific needs and how infrastructure, administration, faculty and course material can be shared across programs. The session will include a discussion of outcomes from the evaluation of a range of programs.
