The CDC/ATSDR AI/AN/NH Coalition is an employee organization comprised of native and non-native health professionals working on Indian and Alaska Native public health issues and dedicated to improving the health of native peoples. This presentation will address public health activities in breast and cervical cancer, violence, partnerships with tribes, and impacts of environmental health on AI/AN communities. Through cooperative agreements and grants, many tribes have devised their own approaches and solutions to different public health challenges. The caveat to this often lies in the restrictions of funding usage, whereby tribes must seek funding from multiple agencies to adequately address a singular public health need. We will endeavor to discuss various AI/AN programs at CDC/ATSDR and their impacts on Indian health.
Learning Objectives: 1.) List 4 activities in which CDC/ATSDR is involved in Tribal Communities 2.) Identify 2 environmental issues involving Tribal communities that are affected by Superfund sites or hazardous waste 3.) Describe 3 solutions utilized by Tribal communities in dealing with public health challenges in their environment
