Data gathering for a intimate partner, domestic violence fatality review team is an important process, which helps to categorize risk factors in a systematic way. This process also helps to evaluate the coordination of systems, and understand the accessibility of services for victims and batterers. Team members gather case information and record their findings onto Case Finding Sheets. They are forwarded to the team’s statistician, who processes the information into a specialized database. Case finding sheets include data such as past history of abuse by the batterer towards the victim, types of abuse, alcohol and drug use, law enforcement contact with the victim or batterer, counseling, mental health and medical contact information, plus other relevant information. During case review, further information is recorded onto an Investigative Report, which will be downloaded into the database, after the meeting. The findings are drawn together in a systematic way for the annual report, and will be used for future publication.
