Lynne Edmondson, MAT, Health Education Ph.D. Student at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, 142 Long Bow Drive, Madison, AL 35758 and Laura L Dreuth, PhD, School of Social Work, Southern Illinois University, Mail code 4329, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL 62901, , dreuth@siu.edu.

This study examined the experiences of middle school girls who identified themselves as bullies and demonstrated fighting behavior. The method integrated qualitative and quantitative approaches. Frequencies were used to analyze results from standardized instruments and surveys adopted to this age level. Focus groups were used to identify a model of self-percpetions based on emergent themes in the girls' experiences that include fighting with siblings, transition from victim to aggressor, and justifications that suggest a general lack of remorse.
