African-American female college students smoke less than their European-American or male counterparts. The most predominant reason given when asked "Why don't you smoke cigerettes?" are maternal related factors. This study investigates the positive influences on African-American female college students that contribute to the choice not to smoke cigarettes. The responses of a sample of students and their mothers will be presented.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to identify the parenting factors that influence African-American daughters to choose not to smoke cigarettes.
