Abstract #26270

Nature of housing for persons with serious mental illness: A consumer perspective on the cross-site findings from the CMHS Housing Initiative

Elaine Myers, Portland State University, Portland, OR 97201, 503-725-5198, journeylne@aol.com

The interim findings from the CMHS Housing Initiative will provide insight into operations, costs, and effectiveness of the various housing approaches available to mental health consumers. In particular, the findings discussed in this panel will shed light on the types of services provided and their costs, the rights and choices individuals have in housing, the life stresses involved in living in different housing situations, and the type of staff-resident relationships that emerge in the different housing models. As discussant, Ms Meyers will speak as a representative of the CMHS Housing Initiative's Consumer Panel and discuss the implications of these findings from a consumer perspective.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to: 1. Describe the effect of supported housing on residents from a consumer point-of-view.
