The Office on Smoking & Health has created a strategic planning tool called CDCynergy for Tobacco Control and Prevention, which is a tailored version of the original CDCynergy created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 1998. CDCynergy is a multi media tool that is used to systematically plan communication programs within a public health context. It is designed to make communication and strategic planning elegantly simple through a six stage planning process. The first two phases help program planners define, describe and understand the tobacco specific problems that may need intervention. Phase three and four help identify and profile target audiences as well as design new and engaging messages that will reach and influence the intended audiences. Phase five and six describe how to develop, execute and evaluate the intervention activities. This interactive CD-ROM includes voice-over audio-video consultation, provides an expanded section on using the Internet, program implementation ideas, and case examples (e.g. promoting cessation, eliminating ETS exposure, and preventing youth initiation). CDCynergy for Tobacco Control and Prevention is useful for managers, policy experts, educators, and public affairs staff. The CD-ROM will be showcased during the session.
