The Model Syllabus Task Force of the Chiropractic Health Care Section of the American Public Health Association developed a template syllabus for chiropractic education in public health. To continue this work a multi-disciplinary team representing the task force, 7 chiropractic colleges, private practitioners, The School of Public Health at Yale University, The Association of Chiropractic Colleges and The National Board of Chiropractic Examiners was formed. Team members have expertise in assessment, curricular development, epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health sciences, health service administration, health promotion and preventive services, communicable diseases, and occupational health. Participants first designed the overall course goals. These stress practice relevance and delivery of clinical preventive services. Subject specific teams then developed measurable learning objectives in their respective area to support these goals. Concurrently there was survey assessment of student, faculty and practitioner attitudes on public health. A public health workshop was conducted at the mid point of the project. Course goals, subject specific learning objectives and sources of public health information were compiled into a course workbook for dissemination to all US chiropractic Colleges and other interested parties. This presentation will consist of a report on the progress of the Model Course project including overall course goals, subject specific learning objectives, the proceedings of the workshop and the course workbook.
This project is supported under a cooperative agreement from the Health Resources and Services Administration through the Association of Schools of Public Health.
