This session will focus on continually changing health care policy that affect Asians & Pacific Islanders. As a heterogeneous population with significant number of immigrants, limited English proficiency, and differing health profiles, the emerging health policy has differing impact. The discussion of issues will include: current local and federal legislation, availability of data and research, Medicare, Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program, implementation of the AAPI Initiative report. Learning Objectives: 1. Participants will discuss and analyze current public policy strategies to address health disparities in AAPI communities. As a heterogeneous population with significant number of immigrants, limited English proficiency and differing health profile, the emerging health policy has differing impact. The discussion of issues will include: current federal and state legislation, availability of data and research, Medicare, Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program, Race and Health Disparities Initiative and AAPI Initiative in addition to implementation of these and other issues at state and local level. 2. Participants will recognize the importance and impact of public policy interventions in addressing health disparities. 3. Participants will be able to define what they can contribute to local and national public policy efforts.
