The objective of this study is to determine substance abuse prevention/treatment professionals’ satisfaction with publications and other materials from the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information. Professionals concerned with substance abuse prevention play a critical role in disseminating information to the public. Practitioners specializing in treatment have a firsthand knowledge of what techniques are useful, and their opinions on technical publications are invaluable. In general, it is important that the materials available and services provided by organizations or agencies in the field of substance abuse prevention and treatment be responsive to opinions and/or concerns experienced by these professionals. To obtain feedback, a telephone “call-back” survey was conducted, drawing a random sample of respondents from the pool of requesters who contacted the clearinghouse to place orders. This survey is ongoing and data is now available on over 400 respondents. The survey provides information on level of satisfaction experienced by substance abuse professionals, as well as the general public, on various aspects of services provided by the clearinghouse such as publications and other materials, performance of information specialists, waiting time, satisfaction with service in general and some demographic variables. Results from this study will help us evaluate the service we provide to this important population. Documenting the opinions expressed by professionals in the field in turn helps us accommodate their needs in this customer-driven model of service delivery. See www.health.org
