Technical assistance is a core component of the effective delivery of community-based HIV/AIDS and substance abuse prevention strategies. This presentation will provide an overview of the processes and lessons learned during the initial process of delivering technical assistance to 47 community-based projects comprising the SAMHSA/CSAP's Integrated HIV/AIDS and Substance Abuse Prevention Program which targets racial/ethnic minority women, youth and families. A technical assistance framework was developed to structure the wide array of technical assistance needs of the 47 participating projects. This presentation provides an overview of: · The process for developing an effective technical assistance relationship between the program Coordinating Center and the 47 projects. · The factors that facilitated or impeded project implementation. · The program settings, target audiences, and prevention curricula. · A technical assistance framework This information will provide useful information to future initiatives specifically targeting communities of color and incorporating the concept of technical assistance.
Learning Objectives: Participants will: 1)identify challenges and opportunities in the provision of HIV/AIDS and substance abuse prevention to community-based organizations; 2) Articulate the components of technial assistance framework; 3) Learn engagement strategies that facilitate the implementation of community-based HIV/AIDS and substance abuse prevention strategies.
