The American Society on Aging and the Roybal Institute of Applied Gerontology, California State, LA with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have organized strategies into a systematic program of Health Promotion/Disease Prevention that is replicable across a variety of settings and providers. The program is based on a survey of organizations providing health education to older adults conducted in August 2000. The survey asked participants four major questionsto: 1) identify health education activities that they are presently conducting 2) identify barriers that they encounter in health education 3) recommend topics for programs that they would like to receive to use in their health promotion activities, and 4) outline the method of receiving these programs such as conferences, Internet access or one-on-one consultation. Additionally, participants indicated the populations that they serve, their position and the type of organization they represent (i.e., managed care or senior housing). This session will describe the project’s development including the survey of potential end-users and focus group research with older adult consumers.
