The primary mission of the University of Maryland's School of Nursing is to provide leadership in nursing thorough identification and development of areas of practice and nursing care delivery systems that anticipate and are responsive to societal needs. Accordingly, the School has initiated innovative primary health care initiatives through the development and establishment of nurse-managed models that provide accessible, affordable, and appropriate health care while providing real-life education and learning laboratories for its students.
Undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level nursing students from a variety of programs and backgrounds including nurse practitioner, administrative, and informatics have the opportunity to experience real-world clinical settings in a variety of public health settings such as a community-based health care center, mobile health units, school-based or school-linked wellness centers, or a community-based senior care center. By establishing and maintaining strong community partnerships throughout the state of Maryland, the School of Nursing is able to coordinate "cutting edge" service delivery while provide access to care to a vulnerable population and maximizing clinical experiences for its students. As an end result, the students will take with them a framework that is useful in understanding the health care market, useful in clinical practice and useful in professional development.
