Global initiatives to eradicate polio have been underway since 1988 and full eradication is merely a few years away. Despite this, many people in the U.S. are not aware of this imminent and historic triumph. The television documentary, currently in production, serves to highlight the important role of CORE Group members such as CARE, Save the Children, ADRA and others to rid the planet of this disease.
Following the immunization activities of these PVO’s, the documentary focuses on the varied challenges that each confronts working in some of the world’s remaining areas of polio outbreak– Angola, Bangladesh, India and Nigeria. The television audience will see from beginning-to-end the unique collaborative efforts and innovative strategies that these PVO’s must deploy to reach this global achievement in the face of sometimes overwhelming obstacles. The documentary conveys the successful model of a “partnership approach” to addressing global health-related issues. The audience will view the PVO community as essential public health partners that can and will make a difference in the fight against polio and other debilitating diseases around the world.
Contrasting the onslaught of negative international news, this documentary spans several continents and more than a few years of the eradication initiative to bring the viewing audience a much-needed global success story – a story in which the public will find hope and encouragement for mankind’s future.
