presentation will cover key information on what is and is not known about teen dating violence, the urgency and long term impacts of addressing dating violence as a women's health issue, unique challenges to addressing dating violence, and examples of excellent resources and model programs for this week. presentation will explore ways the health system can build on its work to address domestic violence as a health issue to start to develop a health system response to dating violence.
Learning Objectives: for "Rewards and Challenges of Recognizing and Responding to Dating Violence" Participants will learn to recognize how the dynamics of power and control can operate in violent teen relationships. Participants will learn about unique ways teen dating violence differs from adult dating violence. Participants will be able to identify ways dating violence impacts and intersects with young women's health issues including pregnancy, eating disorders, AODA and mental health issues. Participants will be introduced to excellent dating violence resources and model programs. for "Beginning the Health System Response to Dating Violence" Participants will learn about one large medical complex's initiatives to address dating violence. Participants will learn about the unique role health practitioners can play in recognizing and responding to dating violence. Participants will be introduced to strategies for getting a health setting/system to address dating violence.
